Family Involvement

A good child care center works in partnership with parents and supports the entire family structure. When parents and staff work together effectively, the best possible learning experience and environment is created for their child.

Maintaining open communication between parent and staff is a vital component of this partnership. Before entering CEC, parents are encouraged to visit and become comfortable with the school’s routines and policies, as well as get to know the staff and other families. The length of the orientation period varies according to the individual child’s and his family’s needs. Parents are welcome to visit at any time to read a story to a group, eat lunch with the children, or observe their child in action.

CEC prides itself on functioning as an extended part of your family and partnering with parents in the nurturing and developmental experience of their child/ren. It’s even our motto: Our family takes care of your family and we become one family together. Because we believe that families play a vital role at CEC, the Center requires each family to give at least four hours a month in some way that will benefit the school. We also ask that families participate in weekend work parties, typically held quarterly, on Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 1:30, with lunch and childcare included.

Many parents help staff with special classroom projects. Others participate by preparing food snacks, cleaning toys, improving the grounds with construction or landscaping projects, or by serving on the Board of Directors or committees. For families unable to contribute time, an alternative is to purchase something of equal value needed by the center. If unable to contribute, a non-participation fee will be applied ($12.50 per hour or $50.00 a month). Extra parent participation hours can be “banked” and used as credit during future months.
